My motion calling for the aggregate yard to be moved out of Woking town centre received unanimous support at last week’s Woking Borough Council meeting.

The Borough Council will now use its best endeavours to encourage Network Rail, Surrey County Council and other organisations to move the aggregates yard to a non-residential location away from Woking town centre.

I was delighted the Council unanimously backed my motion.  Woking has changed a lot in recent years, the town has grown around the aggregate yard making its location far from ideal.

Access to Woking’s aggregate yard is a huge problem locally.  Neither the current access road or the Council’s proposed alternative route is acceptable or safe, moving the whole yard out of the town centre seems the only sensible solution.

Following my motion, the Council has already started to lobby both Network Rail and the County Council to get them look at alternative sites.  The Council will shortly set up an Aggregates Site Working Group, which will include the local Borough and County Councillors, to lead on efforts to move the yard and it will report to Full Council on progress on an annual basis.
