Green fingered residents invited to Sheerwater community planting day

by willforster on 5 July, 2018

Residents are being invited to join in and celebrate the opening of two new community gardens in Sheerwater at a community planting day on Friday 6th July.

The planting day is the culmination of a week’s work on the ground, and a few months of planning, by nine horticulture students from the Royal Horticultural Society School at Wisley.  The idea for the new gardens was conceived by local residents from the Sheerwater Together Group, supported by Woking Borough Council and Surrey County Council, and created by the Community Outreach Team from the Royal Horticultural Society’s School of Horticulture at RHS Wisley.

The new gardens are for people who live and work in Sheerwater to take some time out and relax.  Everyone is welcome to come along on the day and help me with the final planting and finishing touches.  It sa great opportunity for people all ages and abilities to get their fingers green and plant a shrub or tree.

The event on Friday 6 July 2018 at Dartmouth Avenue’s shopping parade in Sheerwater, starts at 10.30am.  The planting goes on until 4.30pm when the gardens will be finished and open to the community.
