The Lighthouse in Woking has been awarded a Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service for their hard work in supporting local people.
As you may know, The Lighthouse is a vibrant community hub in the heart of Woking town centre that hosts a diverse range of projects to support, encourage, and empower those residents who may require extra support. The charity also has a hub based in Ash Road in Barnsbury.
As Deputy Leader of Woking Borough Council and portfolio holder for the voluntary sector, I was delighted to offer my huge congratulations to The Lighthouse and their team of dedicated volunteers on receiving this prestigious award. It is truly a testament to the continued dedication in serving the community and going above and beyond for those in need.
The Lighthouse has touched so many of our hearts here in Woking and is always there to turn to should you need a friendly face. This award is well-deserved, and the charity will continue to be an inspiration to many.
I would like to take this opportunity to recognise and thank volunteers across Woking who continue to excel in so many different ways, devoting time and efforts to others. We should all be very proud of the voluntary work taking place on our doorsteps.
Recently, the Borough Council is working in partnership with The Lighthouse to set up a support service for Ukrainian families fleeing the war in their country, and their host families. This enables refugees to get connected into their local community, find available support and be able to make friends with others who may be in a similar situation.
