I am very pleased that ‘Pride in Surrey’ have announced that on 10th August 2019, Woking will host Surrey’s first Pride event.

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT+) group, Pride in Surrey have been inspired by various Pride events which have taken place across the country this year, and alongside charities like Outline Surrey and Educate & Celebrate, they have put together plans for a Pride event locally – 50th years after Stonewall was established.

I am delighted that Woking Park will host the inaugural Pride in Surrey parade on Saturday 10th August 2019 – this is another example of Woking’s growing reputation for hosting colourful and inclusive annual events.  Although my term as Woking’s Mayor will have come to an end by then, I look forward to attending this event in my local area.

Pride in Surrey celebrates the inclusion and diversity LGBT+ culture and community within Surrey, especially Woking.  Led by Stephen Ireland, the Chairman of Pride in Surrey, I have no doubt the group will create a parade second to none that will bring together all communities within Surrey and beyond.
