Campaigning to be the Lib Dem MP for Woking, Deputy Leader of Woking Borough Council and Councillor in South Woking Learn more
by willforster on 14 September, 2021
Following Woking Borough Council confirming that garden waste will not be collected until 2022 due to a shortage of HGV drivers, the local Lib Dems and I have launched a petition calling for remaining garden waste to be collected.
The Council and the waste contractor previously said the suspension of garden waste collections was due to end on 10th September – this lead to any residents to fill up their green waste bins in anticipation service resuming.
These local people are now left with overflowing bins of rotted garden waste at a busy time in the garden, through no fault of their own. The Lib Dems and I believe that as a very minimum a final green waste collection should be put in place to clear these bins. If you agree with us – please sign our petition here.

Absolutely a good start; It seems as if we were encouraged to reduce & remove compost piles and bonfires. Then JWS decided not to pay driver pay rises and I assume left them to find better jobs elsewhere to support their families etc. Yet the JWS company continues with council support. Why is no one talking about actual council penalties to the JWS organisation rather than just free postponed collections next year if the JWS company survives. Meanwhile there is nowhere for garden waste to go, especially if you have no transport or are not able bodied to queue at the tip to dispose of it ourselves.
