Tomorrow’s elections

by willforster on 5 May, 2021

I have always been drawn to helping the community, which is why I have been serving as a Borough and County Councillor for over a decade. I am re-standing for election tomorrow on May 6th and hope I can have your support.

Over the past few weeks, as Covid restrictions have eased, it has been great to start getting back to normal and start campaigning again – knocking on doors, listening to resident’s concerns and meeting those I have helped over the years.

I believe local Councillors should work hard for their communities, since becoming a Councillor, I have:

  • Improved road safety – getting Surrey County Council to install pedestrian crossings, lower speed limits and widen pavements in several places in south Woking.
  • Got Woking Borough Council to declare a climate emergency and commit to become carbon neutral by 2030.
  • Been a strong voice for the area I represent – just last year I advocated against, and helped stop, inappropriate plans to overdevelop Woking’s Football Ground in Kingfield and Westfield.

I am on the ballot paper for the Borough Council in Hoe Valley and for the County Council in Woking South – but I am also standing for election with some great people.

Across Woking, our Lib Dem team have been working hard to ensure that local people hear about our plan for a fairer, greener and more caring society.  Find out more about our amazing set of candidates here.

The Conservative-run Surrey County Council and Woking Borough Council are in a dreadful mess right now.  Four of the County Council’s key services are officially rated as failing and the Borough Council has debts of almost £1.5 billion.  With your support, the Lib Dems can take control of both councils and start fixing the Conservatives’ mistakes.

I often hear people say their vote cannot make a difference, but it really can.  Wards in Woking have been won or lost by 58, 10 and just 2 votes before.  These elections could be very close between the Conservatives and Lib Dems – so make sure your vote counts!

Finally, several polling stations have changed this year, I know mine has.  Please check to see which polling station you should vote at here.
