Campaigning to be the Lib Dem MP for Woking, Deputy Leader of Woking Borough Council and Councillor in South Woking Learn more

Last week, Woking Borough Council unanimously agreed my motion to declare a climate emergency and aim to become carbon neutral by 2030.
In the first Full Council meeting since Woking Council went to No Overall Control, the Lib Dems and I successfully got Councillors to declare a climate emergency and agree to draft an ambitious plan to reduce carbon emissions. The Council, its wholly-owned Thameswey companies and contractors will now plan to go carbon neutral by 2030.
I was delighted the Borough Council unanimously backed my motion. No-one thinks that Woking on its own can successfully tackle this huge global crisis, but we can take a lead and do our bit. By the Council declaring a climate emergency and setting out a process to stop contributing to climate change, it took a vital step in combating climate change.
The Lib Dems, whether nationally or locally, have always been at the forefront of progress on the environment. Nationally, we were the first major political party to call for a zero-carbon Britain. Locally, I am proud we have ensured Woking Council plays its part in the fight against climate change.
