I was delighted that a fortnight ago, the Lib Dems achieved our best ever European election result in the party’s history and topped the poll in Woking Borough.

Nationally, the Lib Dems got over 20% of the vote and we beat both Labour and the Conservatives for the first time since 1906. We now have 16 MEPs, 3 from the South East of England.

In Woking, the Lib Dems topped the poll with over 36% of the vote. The Brexit Party gained 28% of the vote and the Conservatives were left trailing in third with just 11%.

I think our clear, honest and unambiguous message has won us our best ever European election result. We have shown ourselves to be the strongest Remain force in British politics.
 
Three weeks before the Lib Dems’ European success, we also celebrated gaining over 700 Councillors in the local elections – including winning 4 Councillors in Woking and depriving the Conservatives overall control of Woking Borough Council.
