Stepping down as Mayor of Woking

by willforster on 21 May, 2019

Last week, after completing my one year term, I stepped down as Mayor of Woking.

It has been a huge honour to serve as Mayor of my hometown, to tour the Borough in support of our great community, and to promote my Mayoral Charity – the York Road Project. I want to thank all residents of Woking for giving me the opportunity to serve as Mayor.

I tried to focus my whole Mayoral term, especially my Civic Reception, on supporting Woking’s voluntary sector and saying thank you to our volunteers. Although I have said it before, if you are a volunteer, thank you!

I would also like to thank everyone who has supported my Mayoral charity, the York Road Project. I have been overwhelmed with local people’s response to my call to action help Woking’s homeless. We massively appreciate all those that donated money, food or clothes to the charity – and hope people carry on their support beyond this year.

Being Mayor has been a huge honour, and I will certainly remember my Mayoral Year very fondly. As I go back to my roles as a normal political Councillor, I will continue to work hard, and always act with Woking’s community at heart.
