Low emission buses for Woking

by willforster on 27 June, 2018

Surrey County Council is set to introduce low emission buses to three bus routes in south Woking.

The County Council’s Cabinet yesterday agreed to re-tender contracts for several subsidised bus services in Surrey, including the 81, 462 and 463 services that run in Woking.  When the new bus contract starts on 2nd September, buses on these three routes will be environmental friendly and low emission vehicles.

The new buses will have an emission rating of ‘Euro VI’ which is the cleanest diesel buses available, will assist in working towards reducing air pollution.  Tests have proved that Euro VI buses have 98% lower NOx emissions than the current buses that operated on these services.

I am very pleased low emission buses will soon be running in my Woking South division.  Air pollution is a silent killer, it contributes to 40,000 premature deaths a year and costs the NHS £15 billion.

The area around the A320, south of Woking town centre as traffic slowly travels under Victoria Arch, is an air pollution hotspot and regularly breaches legal limits for poor air quality.  Thankfully, the County Council’s decision to get bus companies covering the 81, 462 and 463 services will help to reduce our local air pollution.

Not about South Woking but when is the amendment to 39C to call into Waitrose going to come in effect?. This will benefit people in our part of Horsell by providing a bus to Waitrose on Tuesday and Thursday each week. At my age this small improvement will be very helpful .
