Esso Petrol Company has begun a consultation process seeking views on where it should built a new underground fuel pipeline between London and Southampton, and one option includes installing the pipeline in the south Woking area.
Esso already has a pipeline that runs from its Fawley Refinery near Southampton, to their West London Terminal storage facility in Hounslow – but this pipeline is from the early 1970s and needs replacing. Hence why the company is now consulting on options for the replacement pipeline.
There are broadly two options for the pipeline, one that travels near Frimley, Lightwater, Chertsey and Ashford to Heathrow – the other, goes south of Farnham, through Worplesdon, Mayford, Sutton Green, Pyrford, Weybridge and Ashford to Heathrow.
Specifically for us locally, Esso are interested at building the pipeline just south of Worplesdon Station and Pyle Hill, it would then go towards Sutton Green Village Hall and then broadly follow the River Wey, it then would go under Pyrford Road and follow the River Wey again. View the details here.
I have already written to Esso objecting to the oil pipeline being built through south Woking, but the more objections they receive the better – please object and have your say here.
