According to the Woking Advertiser, Surrey County Council is considering downgrading Loop Road and York Road from its gritting routes as part of its policy to cut £340,000 from its winter maintenance budget.
I am very concerned the County Council wants to remove Loop Road and York Road from its ‘Priority One’ gritting network, and I have objected to the roads having their gritting priority downgraded. Both roads are busy roads in south Woking, so I think they should always be gritted when we have snow and icy conditions.
More generally, I do not think the Council should be cutting such a significant amount from its winter maintenance budget or removing roads from gritting routes. This will cause considerable inconvenience to residents and could result in accidents, endangering drivers and pedestrians alike.Leave a comment
